I’ m sure you came looking for another shameless plug.  Either a new product out of the hundreds now available or a special tip on how to gain maximum profitability from you twitter experience.  The truth be told, that while some individuals may be making a substantial income from a Twitter audience, most are not. While Twitter is leveling out now with about 8 million new users a month, it is far from catching Facebook with its 150,000 million users and counting.

Twitter is now enforcing it’s terms of service regarding duplicate tweets meaning that those who have used auto-responder’s to plug their wares in a spam like fashion are being banned at record rates.  Two weeks ago my account diminished by over a thousand follower in a period of 5 days.  The timeline cleaned up nicely as I could now read news and commentary without all the noise of constant commercials.  For this aspect I agree, if you have something to sell, you need to bring people to your site and give them a reason for going after more information.  No one likes used car salesmen who try to get you off the lot before you even know the make and model of the car.  Good copy writing and old fashioned trust still reign supreme.

That said, there are a few tools that you need if you  want to build a substantial Twitter following.  Unless you  have the time to be on twitter 24/7, you need to be able to respond to your new followers in a reasonable amount of time.  In my case being gone for 12 hours a day with commute and work loses 1/2 the day and with sleep and blogging I really only have an hour or so to spend.  This means I need a way to communicate with my followers on a more regular basis.  For that I use SocialOomph.com, it gives the ability to auto follow, to send a nice welcoming message and to schedule tweets for an upcoming time.  The recent enforcing of Twitter TOS has put a crimp in the tweet scheduling as you are no longer allowed to schedule duplicate tweets.  You can however schedule a series of individual tweets as long as they don’t point to the same address.(url)

The professional version gives you the ability to clean up your Direct Messages and to follow a dual time line tracking any keyword you wish to use to develop a targeted following.  The second excellent aspect is being able to set up an RSS feed using a combination of Google feeds, twitterfeed, Bit.ly (url shortener) and socialoomph.  You can pick a subject for a combined rss feed and have it appear on your timeline as it is posted on the net.  This allows you to add great content to your twitter page even when you are not able to be present to post it. There are many other features, as this full auto-responder  service can DM your new followers, auto unfollow those you follow who don’t follow you back.  In addition you can set up Social oomph to post your tweets to your FaceBook or Myspace accounts through ping.fm simultaneously, thus saving some valuable time.
